The following RC&D Areas are involved in this committee: Big 8, Bluebonnet, Chisholm Trail, Leon Bosque, Pineywoods and Sam Houston RC&D Councils. Since the original formation and grant application, Southeast Texas has also become involved. The grant amount is $15,000.

A site-evaluation committee comprised of Bill Cameron, Dan Schellenberg and Brice Jackson visited approximately 70 existing constructed wetland sites in Texas. They developed a book with pictures of each site visited and any technical observations were noted. The committee noted that of the sites visited there was only one constructed wetland that was failing due to incorrect placement of the system. However, the drain fields were where they found problems.
The site-evaluation committee is working with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to approve and permit demonstration sites in Clay County. This is expected to happen in the next couple of months, then installation of these sites will begin. As funds become available, efforts will be made to correct the problems in the existing systems.
Clay County has agreed to provide $8,000 in value of labor and equipment to install the demonstration sites in the county.
